That creepy Rumpelstiltskin video…

A video going around recently was claimed by some, even published in some online media, as a scene from a 1987 movie. But some pointed out that they’d seen the movie, and that this is not at all the 1987 movie. It was discovered that this was an AI-generated video, created by a Russian woman, and posted on Instagram as username stroinaya.

Why is it creepy? For one, when one sees the Rumpelstiltskin character, you’re not quite sure if it’s a child, or a very small adult. That, and he suddenly peeks out from around the hay/straw and frightens the 1960s-looking woman. Turns out, the woman is a common “actress” in her other videos. Alot of people felt his tip-toe dance and pointy shoes were pretty creepy too.

It’s even evolved into a Tiptoeing In My Jordans Meme!

Rumpelstiltskin is a famous German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm in their 1812 collection Children’s and Household Tales.

Summary of the Story

  • The Boast: A poor miller falsely tells a greedy king that his daughter has the magical ability to spin straw into gold.
  • The Task: The king locks the miller’s daughter in a tower room filled with straw and demands she spin it into gold by morning, or she will die.
  • The Deal: A strange little man appears and spins the straw into gold in exchange for the girl’s necklace, then her ring, and finally her firstborn child once she becomes queen.
  • The Name Challenge: When the first child is born, Rumpelstiltskin returns to claim his payment. He agrees to give up the child if the queen can guess his secret name within three days.
  • The Resolution: A royal messenger overhears the little man hopping around his campfire in the forest singing his name (“Today I bake, tomorrow I brew, the next day the queen’s child comes too… nobody knows my funny name is Rumpelstiltskin”). The queen guesses the name, and the imp vanishes in defeat.

Etymology and Origin

  • Name Meaning: In German, Rumpelstilzchen translates literally to “little rattle stilt,” referring to a type of folklore goblin or poltergeist (rumpelgeist) that makes noise by rattling posts and knocking on floorboards.
  • History: Folklorists trace the narrative type (ATU 500: Name of the Supernatural Helper) back thousands of years across various global traditions. Similar equivalent figures appear in other cultures, such as Tom Tit Tot or Whuppity Stoorie in Britain.

Gods Don’t Give Gifts – Official Trailer

The official trailer for “Gods Don’t Give Gifts” is out!

Gods Don’t Give Gifts is an upcoming science-fiction film set in a disturbing, technologically advanced future where humanity has learned to overcome some of the fundamental limitations of biological existence—including death itself.

What is it about?

The story takes place on a world called NiiroCradle, where human consciousness can be transferred into artificial bodies, memories can be bought and sold, and death is no longer necessarily permanent. A powerful corporation called NiiroCore controls much of this technology and, consequently, much of society.

The film is an anthology of four interconnected stories, exploring different aspects of this world:

– The scientist: Obsessed with pushing humanity toward its next stage of evolution.
– The android: Searching for a precious, warm memory that connects it to its former humanity.
– The fighter: Trapped in a rigged competition.
– The aristocrat: A wealthy, privileged individual desperately seeking to experience genuine awe again.

A street preacher who opposes technology’s destruction of human identity helps connect the stories.

What does the title mean?

The title Gods Don’t Give Gifts appears to point toward one of the film’s central philosophical questions: If humanity gains godlike powers through technology, does it actually become better—or does it simply gain new ways to exploit itself and others?

The characters can overcome physical limitations, modify their memories, and potentially escape death. Yet they still crave love, meaning, belonging, pleasure, and power. The film explores the possibility that technological progress cannot automatically satisfy those deeper human needs.

In short: If you enjoy philosophical science fiction about artificial intelligence, transhumanism, consciousness, immortality, and the consequences of technological advancement, this film explores those themes through a dark, dystopian lens. Since it has not yet reached its currently listed U.S. release date, its deeper themes can be discussed from the published synopsis, but its actual execution and overall quality remain to be seen.
